As of yesterday, I’d visited my new studio twice and never noticed something…until I looked at a picture…
See this photo of the kitchen? What is missing?
There’s no oven or stove! Can you believe it?! I was so occupied with making sure the closet and bathroom were big enough, I didn’t even notice the kitchen!
That shows you how into cooking I am!
Darnit, though, I have new pots and pans… I guess I won’t become a better cook while I live here. It’s going to be salads, canned soup, sandwiches, cereal, microwave dinners, and takeout.
Wouldn’t it have been funny if I had lived there for like, two weeks and got up to make spaghetti and got out my new pot and filled it with water and salt and was like, “Hey, wait a minute….”
My mom got me a “Pasta boat.” It’s this plastic thing where you microwave pasta in it, and it’s vaguely in the shape of a cruise ship. I’ll have to try it out—because I’m Italian and I gotta have my pasta! But I can also always go over to my parents’ house and make lasagna and freeze it.
Anyway, I’m mostly moved in, but I need to buy specially-shrunken-sized furniture to fit the place.
The studio is really cute—it’s two rooms, plus a bathroom that’s large enough for me to blow-dry my hair and all that.
So! Also! Tokyo—! I’ll be going on Tuesday. Press trip…I get back on Sunday. I’ll fill you in when I return!
Haha! This means you’ll have to get extra creative in the kitchen. 🙂 I looked at an apartment once that didn’t have an oven or stovetop, and the realtor was totally nonplussed about it, saying it was becoming a trend not to have that appliance. (Really, lady?) So–if you had noticed this before you signed the lease, would you still have rented the place?
Wow, that is pretty hilarious, and I think (from what I’ve read) so you. 😉
Good luck in Tokyo! Have a great trip!
I suggest a toaster oven and a portable stove top. Although, you can do so much with a microwave 🙂
I had this set-up last year and loved it. I am 24 and worked in restaurants on a gap year. I got a lot of free meals and was only interested in making simple things at home. Definitely get a toaster oven, stove top and microwave, but it’s surprising how little I even noticed the lack of a proper oven or stove.
You could get a George Forman grill for meat and veggies?
No oven is fine but no stove? Oh dear. LOL. Congratz on your new pad! Have fun in Tokyo and take lotsa pictures.
@Amy, “Trendy?” OMG, I would’ve called her out on that! Ridic! TOo funny. I love these stories, guys. Yeah…I can rough it. I guess, no homemade brownies or stir fry, but I’ll make do!
i couldn’t live without a stove. Major excuse for you not to cook. Don’t know if it’s a good thing Erin. lol.
PS I went to a taping of Anderson Cooper’s new show today. It was in the Allen Room at the Time Warner building. I’m a huge fan and I gotta tell you that he’s even more cute and hilarious in real life. haha. just had to tell you.
you could get a convection microwave. Saw them starting at about 175 in brands mart last week.
Great article. I’m experiencing many of these issues as well..
Greetings! Very useful advice within this post!
It’s the little changes that make the largest changes. Many thanks for sharing!
