Whoo-hoo! So, Friday, my dad and I drove up to Irvine because a guy at Irvine Mini said they had a basic, automatic Mini. It was an hour drive and they had sold it by the time we got there.
So we test drove a 2010 Mini with 22,000 miles on it. My dad didn’t like the smell inside. They had sprayed some kind of scent in there. I told my dad, “Who cares? You’re not going to be driving it.” But his next problem was that 22,000 miles was a bit much to put on a car in one year.
Then we saw 3 never-driven convertibles that were marked down because they were 2010, not 2011. I test drove a greenish-yellow convertible.
My dad, never one to be pressured, did finally turn to me, weary, and said, “We either get a smelly used car, a convertible, or we go home empty-handed.”
We did the latter two. I got a red convertible!!!!!! Complete with a new car smell and tons of “options.”
But we still went home empty-handed because Friday was a holiday and no insurance companies were open. You can’t drive off the lot without proof of insurance. Oops! So it is still there. I am hoping if I call early Monday morning, I can get a policy and have it be effective ASAP. Whoo!
Anyway, it was crazy when we arrived at a good price and the sales guy shook my hand. It was like, Whoa, I’m buying a car right now. And while I have now driven 4 Minis, I’ve never driven the one I bought! Scary?
Also, after hours and hours of waiting for all the people ahead of us to get financed (Dec. 31 is the busiest day of the year for purchasing cars), we didn’t go home completely empty-handed. My dad went to a place next to the dealership and bought himself two golf clubs while we were waiting for them to do the paperwork. He kinda deserved it after all that driving and shopping and waiting.
One more thing. It’s funny—I never saw myself in red. I told that to my dad and he looked at me firmly and said, “Red is the new pink.” Ha! I’m learning that once you own something, you love it very much. Because I could not be more psyched.
Anyway, it was a very productive day/night. Afterward, I went out and had an awesome New Year’s Eve. I hope everyone did as well! Much love!
