I never really thought about how wild the west really is. We have sharks, rattlesnakes, scorpions, earthquakes, rip currents, wildfires, flash floods, tsunamis, and severe draughts. Oh, yeah, and sting rays. The other day, I saw a girl with a bloody foot hopping toward the lifeguard station.
Since this weekend, we’ve had 3 great white shark sightings—it’s Shark Week in San Diego, apparently. One was at La Jolla Shores, which is a few miles south of where I swim. But it was 50 yards out—most people don’t go out that far.
The media likes to make a big deal about this stuff and tell you that 2 or 3 sharks means there’s a “dangerous trend” or something. I hate when people are alarmists. Everyone is fine. I’ll keep you posted if anything changes, though.
